If, buts or maybes….

This week (24) has been an interesting and rewarding week on a number of levels.  Looking back at it now it was a week of personal growth, focusing on learning, networking and deciding on the next steps.

To kick the week off I attended a breakfast seminar on Tax’  Only an hour thank goodness as the subject can be very complex especially when it’s pensions related!  Although it was complex I picked up a couple of good pointers and a couple of new contacts from the seminar running company.

A relaxing music lesson followed, in the evening following the taxing breakfast seminar, where a breakthrough in music theory was achieved and applied.  I learnt more about the use of chords and what can be done to use chords in different ways and progressions to create diverse musical emphasis whilst still using the same chords.  I also became acutely aware what a difference a quality instrument with superior sound and tone quality can have to the results produced.  I have been practising at home on a Casio keyboard bought in my early teens so it must be an antique by now, however, my music teacher uses a modern piano, which has such a beautiful tone and responsiveness it leaves the Casio keyboard I use seem like a very poor alternative indeed.  Owning a piano has now been put on my bucket list!

An industry networking event midweek provided a number of new contacts and opportunities to extend both knowledge and understanding in the professional field in which I work.  Also it was a great place to people watch too.  These events really are invaluable.

Thursday brought another evening of music but this time with a choir group I attend.  I like the range of music we sing and it also helps practice timing, pitching, sight-reading, theory of music notation through the ages etc.  It is a community choir so there is no pressure on attending every week and you can learn at your own pace.  I also enjoy going as I can catch up with some good friends I have made there and have a bit of a laugh without alcohol being involved 😀  I always come away feeling uplifted and energised.

With all this activity in the week I was very glad for the weekend to arrive so I could relax, however, with my half-year review looming next week there is some reading and preparation to do.   So far there has not been a lot of relaxing achieved but an important task so I need to keep my head down, deep breath and just do it!

Hope you all have a fantastic week ahead and to end I wanted to share a poem with you by Rudyard Kipling, “If”…….

If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating, and yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream – and not make dreams your master; If you can think – and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken, And stoop and build ’em up with worn out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings and risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings and never breathe a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew to serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with kings – nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute with sixty seconds’ worth of distance run –
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it, And – which is more – you’ll be a Man my son!

I know that it will happen….

…cos I believe  in the certainty of chance.  Lyrics courtesy of The Divine Comedy – A Secret History – Certainty of Chance.

Week 23 and there is positivity in the air for new projects, new beginnings, new connections, new perspectives and new opportunities.

The weather has improved in the UK and I find that when the weather improves the mood of the people improves, it must be the increase in vitamin D or the fact that we can wear summer dresses and sandals (talking from a girls perspective of course).

This week there has been a lot of suggestion that environment around me is changing and I need to make changes too to keep in with the positive flow of change.  It’s great when you realise this at an early stage as it means you can be proactive and ask questions about how the change is likely to affect you and sometimes have input into the change.

Nothing lasts for ever and it’s important to embrace what happens around you so you do not get caught up in the emotion of the moment.  Take a step back and assess your situation from a ‘person looking in’s perspective to get a different view of why things are changing.  You can usually identify the catalyst for the change and if you can rationalise the reasons for it you can make a better assessment of what you need to do for yourself in the situation.

Some change is forced upon you and so you will need to find the positives out of it for you.  It’s unlikely you will be able to control whether you will be affected or not, you are being affected, but you can make some decisions for yourself.

One thing is for certain, the change will happen and it will pass but out of it a new beginning will emerge.  New beginnings bring new opportunities, new projects, new connections, new perspectives……

Embrace the change and it will introduce you to a new view of your world.  Have a great Saturday and a super week ahead.

Changes… they come in all shapes and sizes

Changes come in all shapes and sizes, they do!

Sometimes expected, sometimes out of the blue,

Sometimes welcome, sometimes not,

Sometimes a few, sometimes a lot,

But change is needed to help us grow,

You know…

An amalgamation of week 21 and 22 due to time pressures of a productive kind but thought I’d also share with you a little off the cuff poem as an extra treat for your patience.

Well it’s been a busy couple of weeks.  Since I last posted I have had a revolutionary music lesson, where my ideas of music creation/writing have once again been ignited.  I had a really positive networking event, linked with my day job, which re-united me with some old and introduced me to some new contacts.

I failed miserably at a ten-pin bowling party and realised that you can’t expect to come back into something years on and still have the same edge as you previously had.  I should have had a secret practice before hand for my own self esteem but still the event was fun and we all had a good laugh.

I started another creative project this week which I’m hopeful will get off the ground this year, time permitting of course.  A bit more research and then some late nights and hard work will be required but if you are passionate about something you need to find that bit of extra energy and/or time to make it happen.  Right?

That is exactly what one of my friends has done, check out his new iPhone/iPod Touch game – Jet Point:

Well my friends I will leave you with that thought and wish you all a fabulous weekend, stay safe and enjoy the changes presented to you 🙂
